We are incredibly excited to announce that the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) and the Southwest Conservation Corps (SCC) are dedicating their valuable time and efforts to wildfire mitigation in and around the Salida community. This collaborative initiative is already making a meaningful impact, with mitigation work beginning near our city shops and expanding into the communities located within the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI).

The Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) is a critical zone where human development intersects with wildland vegetation, creating an area of heightened vulnerability to wildfires. This relationship is critically important in addressing the wildland urban interface and protecting our community from wildfires. Additionally, the crews will complete over $120,000 in mitigation work at no expense to our community. "It was a no-brainer to trade housing for this amount of work addressing our biggest threat," said Chief Jonke, who has made it clear that although we are a small community that doesn't have the resources similar to that of larger cities, it is a top priority of his to do everything we can to stay ahead of the threat of wildfire.

In this exciting relationship, we are proud to be exchanging housing at the 124 E Street Station in support of this essential mitigation work. This strategic partnership will play a crucial role in reducing wildfire risks and enhancing safety for both our city and the surrounding regions.

In addition to the mitigation work being conducted by NCCC, SCC crews are also actively contributing to our wildfire prevention efforts in the area. To further support this valuable work, we are pleased to offer them bay access at the 124 E Street Station. This gesture ensures that the crews have the resources they need to continue their efforts seamlessly and efficiently.

This partnership is a powerful example of the teamwork and dedication required to safeguard our community from the ever-present threat of wildfires. We are deeply grateful for the hard work and commitment of the NCCC, SCC, and Colorado Firecamp, whose efforts are truly making a difference. Their contributions are vital to ensuring the long-term safety and resilience of Salida and its surrounding areas.
